About

In the early twentieth century, photo artist August Sander set out to capture the people of his homeland - faces that spoke of work, class, and time. His portraits became a quiet record of humanity. One Billion Voices picks up that same curiosity - but listens instead of looks. Now that 63 percent of the world’s total population is now online, we’re wondering: Using the reach of the internet, we’re collecting short, spontaneous street interviews from all around the world - people answering simple questions about life, hope, love, work, and change. Each clip becomes a living note in a global conversation - forming an open-source archive of how we speak, think, and feel today. The question we’re left with is: What will the next One Billion Voices say?
